Ø  To brighten a sapphire, oxidative heating is used.

One of these procedures can be used to change the color or clarity of a sapphire. The heated gem never loses its stability and durability; it remains just as it was. However, there are methods that alter the quality and worth of gemstones. Diffusion treatment for sapphire is a highly frequent approach that impacts gem value. Diffusion treatment is simply a surface treatment that involves only a few tenths of a millimeter to be colored.

Diffused treated sapphire is superior than more expensive heated sapphires, although the price and durability are radically different. Yet, many vendors present these less-durable gems as genuine heated sapphire. It is best to buy from a reputable dealer who provides a guarantee on the gem as well as laboratory verification.
