Sapphire on fire

Sapphires are typically thought of in places like Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Madagascar, Kenya, Australia, and others. This gemstone is a corundum variation that comes in a variety of colors ranging from sunset yellow to lavender to rose pink, with the most classic being heavenly blue. The appeal of gemstones has existed throughout history and will continue to exist in the future. Gemstones are a symbol of elegance and beauty, which adds to the appeal of jewelry.

Many gemstones are heat treated to improve their color and clarity; these gemstones are subjected to high temperatures, which causes them to change color. Sapphire is a common example of a heat-treated gem. Because nearly 80% of sapphires are heat treated, they are less unusual and so have a lower value. In the case of heat treatment, the vendor should inform the buyer because, according to astrologers, heat treatment sapphire modifies the qualities of a gemstone, which does not end up offering the expected outcomes to its wearer.

For example, the initial stone is white sapphire, which transforms to blue sapphire when heated. Initially, that stone represented Venus, but it has been changed to represent Saturn, preventing one from reaping the desired benefits. If you wish to wear gems for healing or astrological purposes, it is best to buy untreated gemstones and avoid heated gemstones.

Nowadays, sapphires are heat treated in three different ways that replicate the natural process.

Ø  To remove the silk from the sapphire, it is heated.

Ø  Heating without oxygen, commonly known as reductive heating, is used to darken a sapphire.

Ø  To brighten a sapphire, oxidative heating is used.

One of these procedures can be used to change the color or clarity of a sapphire. The heated gem never loses its stability and durability; it remains just as it was. However, there are methods that alter the quality and worth of gemstones. Diffusion treatment for sapphire is a highly frequent approach that impacts gem value. Diffusion treatment is simply a surface treatment that involves only a few tenths of a millimeter to be colored.

Diffused treated sapphire is superior than more expensive heated sapphires, although the price and durability are radically different. Yet, many vendors present these less-durable gems as genuine heated sapphire. It is best to buy from a reputable dealer who provides a guarantee on the gem as well as laboratory verification.
