The reason behind it is the beauty of ruby as there is no other match of 'pigeon blood' like deep rich red colour found in the rubies. When it sold at auction, Sunrise Ruby broke the two world records. First, the most expensive coloured gemstone (apart from a diamond) and second, the most expensive price per carat of any Ruby.

Most expensive type of ruby: The sunrise ruby

When there is a discussion about the World’s Most Expensive Ruby, then the king is "The Sunrise Ruby". Before being beaten by the Crimson Flame, it held the title of the highest price per carat for just over six months.

Over 10 carats bigger than it’s rival, the Sunrise gemstone is an exceptional Ruby.

In 2015, when it was sold, sunrise stone smashed the previous record the Graff Ruby set in 2014. It will be very interesting to see the next gemstone which will dethrone it from the title of the world’s most expensive Ruby gemstone.
